Founded in 1984, the Emergency Center was one of the earliest developed Emergency partments in China. It is one of the founders of the Chinese Association of Emergency Medicine (CAEM). As a level I Trauma Center, it serves some of the most critically injured patients. There are over 100,000 annual admits, with 12 percent of the patients classified into the critical categories. It is also the only center in the Zhejiang Province that offers MedFlight critical care transport since the Year 2005.
With integration of clinical practice, teaching, research, and publications, the Center holds a leading Emergency Center position in all of China. The Center has published in one of the most prominent journals in emergency medicine in China, the Chinese Journal of Emergency Medicine. As a partner to the Harvard University Medical School, the Center is also the home of Harvard University China Training Center for Advanced Disaster Medical Response.
