We have plenty of clinical experience on the treatment of critical illness, such as multiple organ dysfunction syndrome(MODS), severe infections, acute kidney injury (AKI), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), and on the life-support techniques, including mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), intra-aortic ballon pump (IABP) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

Our department is the ECMO center of SAHZU. It integrates the resources of the whole hospital and brings the gospel to the critically ill patients. During its development, GICU gradually forms features of clinical techniques, such as bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and critical care blood purification (CCBP), and of medical concept of severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and critical care nutrition support.
