Research Summary

Normal behavioral functions rely on precise and complex neural circuits linking large ensembles of neurons. Abnormal circuit development, neurodegenerative diseases and neural injury are detrimental to the performance of the nervous system. However, the regenerative capacity of mature mammalian central nervous system (CNS) is extremely limited, creating a major clinical challenge. 

The long-term objectives : 

(1) To study the molecular mechanisms controlling the assembly of motor circuits; 

(2) To understand how neural miswiring and degenerative disorders affect motor circuit function and behavior; 

(3) To develop new therapeutic strategies for effective maintenance and repair of motor circuits in pathologic conditions.
