Zhejiang Provincial Health Commission, in a work conference Tuesday, unveiled the result of the 2018 Chinese Tertiary Public Hospital Performance Evaluation. Of all 2398 tertiary hospitals evaluated, only 1% are labeled as A++, the highest level in this competition which SAHZU, also graded as A++, is clearly winning with its 9th position in the whole country and 1st position in the province with regard to the detailed measurements.

Out of all 26 measurements, SAHZU gains full credits in 10+ items: proportion of surgical patients discharged, incidence of postoperative complications, infection rate of type-1 surgical incision*, death rate of low-risk cases*, defined daily dose of antibacterial medicines, growth of average inpatient stay cost, doctor-nurse ratio, satisfaction rate of hospitalized patients, etc.

Since the foundation of China, it is the first "national examination" to assess four dimensions of all Chinese tertiary public hospitals --- service quality, operation efficiency, continuous development, patients' satisfaction. With a goal to enhance the ongoing national healthcare reform and promote quality-orientated development of hospitals, the evaluation is considered to be setting “gold standards” or directing “wind vane” for public healthcare institutions. Therefore, the result of the evaluation can be seen as an official and comprehensive report about the real performance of Chinese tertiary hospitals, composed and delivered by the most authoritative health agency in China.

* Type-1 surgical incision and low-risk cases as defined by the National Health Commission.
