The First IVF Baby Was Born at SAHZU

On December 14 of 2017, the first IVF baby was born in Department of Obstetrics at SAHZU, which brought lots of happiness and joy to the new parents who had the infertility for 10 years due to tubal blockage and primary ovarian insufficiency. This happiness also permeated the medical staff of the Center for Reproductive Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Anesthesiology, as well as each of the SAHZU staff. It is amazing that the 8-cell embryo has been growing up to a 48cm height and 2700g weight healthy boy. President Jian’an Wang made a special trip to Binjiang campus to visit the baby and delivered greetings and thanks to the parents for their trust on behalf of the hospital.

The Center for Reproductive Medicine was found in 2013 at SAHZU, obtained the qualification of Artificial Insemination with Husband Semen (AIH) in 2014. In the March of 2017, it was certificated the qualification of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technology.

Since the beginning of IVF technology in the center, there has been good news one after another, including the first case of IVF-ET baby born, the first case of ICSI for successful pregnancy, the first case of blastocyst culture embryo transfer for successful pregnancy, and the first freeze-thaw embryo transfer for successful pregnancy.

During the last nine months, the Center for Reproductive Medicine has been growing fast with encouraging outcomes that 113 cycles of egg retrieval were completed and the pregnancy rate reached 42.37%, among which the clinical pregnancy rate of frozen-thaw embryo transfer cycles reached 60%.

Behind those achievements, there is a responsible and excellent medical team supporting all programs in the Center for Reproductive Medicine. The core members have abundant working experiences, as well as oversea training experiences in United States, Australia and United Kingdom. We are looking forward to more miracles of life to be created by the team.
