The 2018 Ho Leung Ho Lee Award Presentation Ceremony was held in Beijing on Nov. 6. The President of SAHZU, Prof. Jian’an Wang was awarded the prize of Ho Leung Ho Lee Scientific and Technological Progress.

Prof. Wang is a renowned cardiologist who has made a series of pioneering research work on heart failure, especially heart valve diseases and myocardial infarction. Prof. Wang and his team developed valve reconstruction products, innovating key theories and techniques of interventional cardiology. He proposed the Hangzhou Solution to the world, a supra-annular structure-based sizing strategy that typically selects smaller sized self-expandable valves. This approach has been shown to improve procedural success and decreases the rates of paravalvular leak and need for permanent pacemaker implantation in patients with bicuspid aortic valve treated with TAVR.

Based on a 15-year "small animal-non-primate animal-clinical" system study, he confirmed that hypoxic preconditioning stem cell transplantation significantly increases cardiac ejection capacity and reduces myocardial infarct size. He serves as the Co-Director of CSI 2018 and the Vice Chairman of Chinese Society of Cardiology. His research achievements were included into 2 international consensus statements such as European Society of Cardiology and 5 foreign books. As physician scientist, Prof. Wang published over 90 SCI papers in authoritative journals such as PNAS, Circulation Research, Circulation Heart Failure, Stem Cells, etc. He was awarded the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was established in 1994 by 4 Chinese patriots from Hong Kong, HE Shanheng, LIANG Qiuju, HE Tian and LI Guowei. The purpose of the Foundation is to encourage scientist and to promote scientific progress and innovation in China. In 2018, a total of 56 Chinese top scientists have been awarded prizes by the Foundation.
