1. Minimally invasive and open surgical treatment for GC. Out of nearly 700 various types of gastrectomy that are performed here every year, 70% are laparoscopic gastrectomy. Assistance such as 3D and 4K laparoscopy, fluorescence-guidance and robotic system are utilized. The 5-year survival rate of the department’s gastric cancer patient is over 60%.

2. Conversion therapy for advanced GC. The department is the first in the province to adopt a conversion-therapy approach to advanced GC. Conversion methods for GC patients with peritoneal metastasis include intraperitoneal chemotherapy combined with systemic intravenous chemotherapy, arterial chemotherapy infusion, local chemotherapy for advanced tumor combined with immunotherapy. For these patients, the conversion rate is over 30% and the resection rate of R0 is around 70-80%.

3. Full-process multidisciplinary (MDT) management of GC patients. In collaboration with Gastroenterology, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Pathology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Thoracic Surgery and other clinical departments of SAHZU, the department provides patients with precise and individualized treatment plans. Efficacy is significantly improved with MDT management of GC patients, which brings the overall survival rate of the department up to the top-rank in China.

4. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy for GC. The department studies the application of targeted therapy and immunotherapy for GC. Currently, three national multi-center RCT clinical studies and two basic research programs are on-going, with a hope to formulate a future guideline of targeted therapy and immunotherapy for GC.

5. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) for GC. ERAS refers to patient-centered, evidence-based, multidisciplinary team developed pathways for a surgical specialty and facility culture to reduce the patients surgical stress response, optimize their physiologic function, and facilitate recovery. It can reduce the hospital stay and medical cost.
