Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory for Pancreatic Disease Announces Establishment

Funded by Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Department at SAHZU, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory for Pancreatic Disease announced establishment on December 21th 2016. It is also the 5th anniversary of the HPB Department of SAHZU that the key laboratory affiliated to.


The HPB Department enjoys high reputation in dealing with difficult diseases with a high-level of patient care in HPB. Leading by Chairman Liang Tingbo, the team has achieved remarkable progress in the field of liver, hepatic and pancreatic surgery. Rather than isolated silos of care, the Department takes care of patients with a multidisciplinary team approach and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), makes a big difference in the outcomes of patients. The radical surgical resection rate and survival rate of HBP malignancies have taken a leading position in China.


A common theme of much of the Department’s research is to improve the comprehensive management of the patients receiving cancer therapy and to reduce the post-treatment morbidity and mortality of this therapy. There are 67 active national and provincial scientific research programs ongoing since the year of 2011. These research include 2 subjects listed in The National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), and two listed in The National Basic Research Program (973 Program). Meanwhile, over 100 academic papers were published in peer-reviewed international journals in last 5 years. In 2014, a paper titled  “Hepatic RIG-I predicts survival and interferon-ɑ therapeutic response in hepatocellular carcinoma” was published in Cancer Cell by Professor Liang and his team.


With the vision to be internationally recognized hospital and standing on the three pivot points of education, research and patient care, HPB division has successfully established close collaboration with counterparts in the United States, Germany, Australia, India, including the Johns Hopkins Hospital and University of Colorado Hospital.
