The Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology was set up jointly by SAHZU and UCLA in 2009. Dr. Erina May Lin, an American specialist and the Director of International Collaborations in China of UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, was appointed the Chair of the Department. Dr. Huiying Wang is the current director of the department.
It is the sole department focusing on the specialty of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in the southeastern part of China. Since its opening, it has provided professional treatment for many patients including allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, atopic dermatitis etc. In 2013, the department received grants from the Health Commission of China. In 2015, it ranked 12th in the country.
Currently it has developed a combined treatment scheme of western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine for allergic diseases and remarkable results have been observed. The Department has 5 physicians and 1 nurse offering clinical services such as allergen detection, specific immunotherapy, and performing research on the mechanism of the allergic reaction of asthma, food allergy and so on.
