Research Summary

Dr. Sun's research focuses are as follows:

Analysis of different expression of home-obox gene between ameloblast and ameloblastoma, in order to discover the value genes that may be associated with tumorigenesis and development.

The oligonucleotide microarray containing the home-obox gene family was designed to analyze gene expression profiles in fresh ameloblastomas and the cap /bell-stage human fetal tooth germs. 

Real time fluorescence quatitation PCR was performed to comparate microarray result on selected gene expression in 14 tumor samples and 3 tooth germs. 73 differential expression genes were screened by the oligo microarrays. Among them, 11 genes were upregulated and 62 genes downregulated, and above all, 12 genes were downregulated in all tumors. DPRX was the most downregulated gene (average 24.4 fold ), followed by HOXD8 (16 fold) and they were downregulated 10.9 ,8.8 fold respectively in the tumour tissue by the real time PCR. HOXD8 and DPRX genes may play crucial roles in originate and development of the tumor and the other members of its family may work in coordination.
