Education Experience

Research Summary

Dr. Shentu has been engaged in clinical, scientific research and teaching of cataract and intraocular lens (IOL) for more than 20 years. She is particularly interested in the genetic pathology of cataract, and her lab revealed lots of the cellular function of mutated proteins and pathologic mechanisms of candidate genes related to congenital cataract and age-related cataract.

At lens epithelia cell level, she was able to identify the novel roles of cell apoptosis and autophagy processes in cataract formation.

At animal level, her lab generated different genetic and diseases model to discover the cataract-related mechanisms in zebrafish, mouse, rabbit and ground squirrel.

In addition, her lab has been continuously working on medicine applications in cataract-related oxidative-stress-induced injury and dysfunctional autophagy.
