"Doctors should learn to find solutions to clinical problems through innovative scientific research." Said Prof. WANG Jian'an, SAHZU Chairman and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, for many years.
In 2024, SAHZU launched a systematic training program on clinical research methodology, which aims to improve SAHZU researchers' scientific thinking and research abilities to solve clinical problems, and create a strong atmosphere of advocating science in the hospital.
Prof. WANG emphasizes that the hospital should provide "those who love clinical practices with operating tables, those who love teaching with classrooms, those who love research with labs, and those who love management with administrative opportunities", so that "SAHZU employees can better find their positions in the system and seek their career path. Their potential could be stimulated, and their talents unleashed."
SAHZU encourages clinical doctors to become clinical scientists, focusing on solving clinical problems. Immersive learning from the world's top medical schools about clinical research design and methodology is a necessary process.
Clinical Research Training Course for SAHZU Department Heads @ Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH)
From June to October, the Clinical Research Training Course for SAHZU Department Heads at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH) was successfully held. A total of 30 SAHZU department chairs and directors attended the training course, and together started this extraordinary journey of pursuing excellence with the world's best researchers and pushing research boundaries.
With a focus on clinical research methodology, the compact training course covers multiple topics, ranging from clinical research design and analysis of the effectiveness of research, to the epidemiology and statistical methodology, as well as the key elements of data analysis and quality assessment.
The format of the program was unique, with daily interactive lectures and seminars, as well as inspiring on-site visits and in-depth exchanges with HSPH colleagues.
The SAHZU delegations were also given the chance to visit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children's Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and other major Harvard hospitals, from which they gained invaluable experience and insights.
Clinical research training course @ The George Institute for Global Health
SAHZU has collaborated with the George Institute for Global Health in Australia to hold four sessions of 26-day clinical research training course from June to September 2024. The 120 SAHZU trainees from 50 clinical departments are composed of hospital leaders, clinical department directors, and outstanding young clinical researchers.
The course focuses on topics such as clinical research fundamentals and randomized controlled trials. It analyzes and demonstrates clinical research methods and research design through theoretical lectures, case analysis, and group discussions. The course is rich, targeted, and practical, which not only consolidates the theoretical knowledge of trainees, but also stimulates their interests and innovative ideas in clinical research. In the end of the training, each trainee was asked to present a research design.
During the training, the trainees also visited well-known Australian medical institutions such as Prince of Wales Hospital to gain a deeper understanding of how doctors in Australian public hospitals conduct clinical research and how hospitals provide support for them. Together, they discussed the current status and challenges of clinical research and gained valuable experience and inspiration from it.
