The Department of Thoracic Surgery was officially established in the 1950s. The department performed the first case of pulmonary lobectomy under peri-spinal anesthesia in China (1952), and has maintained high reputation in surgical therapy of thoracic diseases in the country. The number of operations (more than 1000) increases annually. The department offers PhD and MD programs and also accepts doctors or interns for advanced training every year.
