Professor Wu Zhiying Appointed as Full Professor by the University of Toronto

Professor Wu Zhiying, a neurologist of the Second Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang University, was appointed as a full professor by the University of Toronto, together with the other four professors of Zhejiang University. Different from traditional visiting professors or guest professors, as full professors, the five professors have exactly the same academic privileges, such as recruiting students and applying for research project funds, with the local professors at the University of Toronto. This is the first time for the University of Toronto to appoint an in-service professor outside Canada as a full professor of their own. It is also a landmark event in Zhejiang University’s journey of enhancing internationalization and expanding global reputation.

Zhejiang University and the University of Toronto launched the Joint Institute for Genetic and Genomic Medicine in November, 2015 and signed an agreement on joint doctoral candidate training and doctoral degree conferring. In 2016, their cooperation model has expanded to neuroscience, oncology, clinical medical education and other disciplines. We believe this appointment will effectively help the two universities integrate their medical education and research resources and greatly improve bilateral cooperation and development.
