The Department of Pathology was established in 1955, and is the earliest and also one of the biggest departments of Pathology in Zhejiang Province.
The department is one of the first qualified national level departments for resident pathology training unit and for teaching trainee pathologists(one year) and technicians(sin months) in Zhejiang Province. It was recognized as the leading department of clinical pathology in Zhejiang Province in 2007.
The department provides high-quality services to all the clinical departments in the hospital. Annually there are more than 50,000 cases of surgical or biopsy specimens and more than 28,000 case of cytology. Additionally, we accept about 1800 complex and difficult cases referred from all over Zhejiang Province each year. We engage in tele-pathology consultation with UCLA pathology department and about 400 cases per year referred from our hospital. Some academic programs with scientists and postgraduate students are carried out.
Five laboratories provide high qualified technologies and services in routine histopathology diagnosis, frozen section diagnosis, cytology, immunohistochemistry (Vantana) and molecular pathology (FISH). Modern equipments including Shandon Pathcentre Enclosed Tissue Processors (2 sets), Leica RM 2235, RM 2135 and RM 2126 microtomes, Shandon Histocentre 3, Shandon Varistain Gemini PreP Stain TM slide processor, Nikon (Y-TNP) eclipse 80i multi-headed microscope and Aperio Scanscope unit guarantee a high level of service to meet clinical requirements and research.
